MONEY

Day 12: money

Since the move to the farm, the boys have daily chores to complete. If they do them without constant reminders, they receive a small allowance each Sunday. We have been reviewing some flashcards on counting coins the past week. I thought it was now time to perfect the skill.

We learned about long ago before there was such thing as currency. The boys role played bartering between a baker and dairy farmer and the importance of trade. Then they picked a coin and we studied every single detail about it. From the location the coin was minted to the textured edges for the blind. Then they drew their coin of choice on paper.

Now it was time for fun...the boys left the room as I set up "Mommy's General Store." I had some of their most favorite and wanted items. Candy, gum, a Dr. Pepper, Car Movie cars, and other items were displayed with a price tag. Each was given a bag of change. If they were able to give me the exact amount of money the item was tagged with, the item was theirs. They both walked away with huge smiles and a bag full of goodies.
